WINDSOR, ON – Candace Rennick, a long-term care worker from Peterborough, Ontario, was acclaimed to a third term as Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario, the province’s largest union.
Rennick, who grew up in Peterborough, has been a CUPE union member her entire adult life. Candace has held many leadership positions in the labour movement, including the presidency of her home local, CUPE 2280 in Peterborough, and Vice-President of both her national union and the Ontario Federation of Labour.
Rennick told the more than 1000 delegates attending CUPE Ontario’s annual convention that members are facing great challenges at the bargaining table and that their union will be called on to protect public services and jobs more than ever. “Governments advocating austerity agendas threaten the health of our communities and it’s up to us to fight back,” Rennick said. “It is my great honour to serve you in that fight.”
