Tell the Board of Trustees to invest in the highest quality of university of food services to better serve students and workers.
Dear Board of Trustees of Brock University,
WHEREAS the cost of food can be a barrier to obtaining a balanced and nutritious diet;
WHEREAS locally grown and produced food is important in supporting sustainable food systems and our local economy;
WHEREAS more diverse food options are necessary to accommodate our campus community’s dietary requirements;
WHEREAS food service workers deserve job security, decent wages and sufficient benefits;
WHEREAS high health and safety standards are crucial to delivering high quality food service;
WHEREAS contracting out food services to a private company such as Sodexo, Aramark or Compass is more expensive and relinquishes local decision-making away from our campus community;
WHEREAS food that is used by these private food service companies is often costly, factory-made and less nutritious;
WHEREAS universities are publicly funded institutions;
We, the undersigned, petition the Board of Trustees of Brock University to invest in the highest quality of university food services to better serve students and workers, and bring food services back in-house.
