BRANTFORD, ON – Workers at GrandBridge Energy, Inc., voted yesterday to join the country’s leading union, the Canadian Union of Public Employees. GrandBridge was created by the merger, in April 2022, of Brantford Power, where workers were already members of CUPE Local 181, and Energy+ in Cambridge.
“Mergers are always stressful times of uncertainty for workers. We’re honoured that these energy workers chose to be CUPE members and look forward to working with them to negotiate a strong collective agreement and help them navigate this time of change in their workplaces,” said CUPE representative Heather Grassick.
CUPE is Canada’s largest union with more than 700,000 members. In the energy sector, CUPE’s represents 50 percent of electricity workers across the country, and more than 40,000 energy sector workers in Alberta, Ontario, Manitoba, Quebec, and in Federal Crown Corporations.
