A message from CUPE Ontario’s Social Service Workers Coordinating Committee
The SSWCC welcomed today’s announcement by the Minister of Community and Social Services (MCSS) of an independent review of the problem-plagued Social Assistance Management System (SAMS).
The announcement comes on the heels of Friday’s productive meeting between frontline CUPE members from Ontario Works and the ministry’s IT project staff; the meeting was held in an attempt to resolve the continuing system problems that have caused such misery in the lives of OW workers and clients.
CUPE is pleased that the Minister of Community and Social Services has taken this decision – a clear indication from the province of the devastation SAMS has had on workers on the front line and on the people they serve.
CUPE members in Ontario Works offices will support the review and look forward to working with the Ministry to ensure that they can once again deliver the best possible service to Ontarians who receive social assistance.
