TORONTO – CUPE Local 2 and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) have reached a tentative agreement, avoiding a labour disruption involving nearly 700 electrical, communications, and signals workers.

The tentative agreement was reached after negotiations continued through the weekend and into Monday following two strike deadline extensions. The TTC had previously advised the union it intended to lock out CUPE Local 2 members if a deal was not reached by the May 16th deadline.

“Our members stayed strong and united throughout this bargaining process, and we’re very pleased to have reached a tentative agreement,” said CUPE Local 2 President Sumit Guleria. “This collective agreement reflects the hard work and solidarity of nearly 700 skilled workers who keep Toronto’s transit system running every day. We’re proud of what our members achieved at the bargaining table and grateful for the support we received from riders and the public throughout negotiations.”

Details of the tentative agreement will not be released until members have had the opportunity to review and vote on the deal. Information regarding the ratification vote will be shared with members directly.
