TORONTO, Ont. – Mark Ferguson, president of Toronto Civic Employees Union Local 416 CUPE, has released the following statement regarding ongoing negotiations with the City of Toronto:

The Local 416 bargaining committee continues working hard to reach a negotiated settlement on behalf of our 6,200 members before we reach the legal strike deadline of 12:01 a.m., Monday, June 22.

We continue to view our deadline as a firm one. We have been at the table with the City for six months. The time has come to bring these talks to a conclusion that will provide our members with a fair contract without concessions. It is time for the City’s negotiators to get serious about reaching a fair settlement and averting a strike so that we can continue to provide important public services to the people of Toronto.

Our focus at this time is on negotiations. There will be no media availability today. We will provide further comment at a time to be determined tomorrow.
