Call on MPP Orazietti to act
Sault Ste. Marie, ON – Significant cuts to residents’ care at the FJ Davey Home is “extremely worrisome,” say resident family members and front line nursing and personal care staff. They will be holding a media conference on Wednesday, April 2 at 12 noon at the Sault Ste. Marie Delta Waterfront Hotel (208 St. Mary’s River Drive, Brule Salon A) to review the impact of recent nursing and staffing cuts on resident care levels.
Corrado Bruni whose father has lived at FJ Davey for the last year, Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario, secretary-treasurer Candace Rennick, a former nursing home worker, will join FJ Davey personal support worker (PSW) Alison Caul, at Wednesday’s media conference.
There is widespread agreement among families, nursing home operators and front line workers that care levels for residents must increase, says Rennick. “We are all advocating with the provincial government for more funding for resident care and staffing levels to increase.
“What is happening at the Davey home with these cuts is that residents will get less care. That’s just not acceptable. Not to us, and certainly not to the family members who want the best care possible for their loved one. We are optimistic that local MPP, David Orazietti will find a way to deliver better funding to the FJ Davey Home so that these cuts to resident care levels will be rescinded and care levels will be enhanced, not cut.”
