The Core Service Review Results are in!
Over 13,000 people participated in the Core Services Review Survey between May 11 & June 17, 2011. The results are clear:
• Torontonians do not want service cuts. When asked about funding strategies, the first choice of consultation participants is to pay more property tax to maintain service levels. Over 80% of respondents are willing to pay 3% or more tax increase – almost 20% said they were willing to pay more than a 10% tax increase. The willingness to pay more was the same across all demographic groups, including business owners.
• Transparent and accountable government was ranked as the number one policy priority. Tax levels were ranked below other issues, including: infrastructure, meeting the needs of vulnerable people, environmental issues, jobs and a healthy economy, culture and sport and community participation and consultation.
• A majority of people responded that almost all of the services should be directly provided by the City.

Phase 1 Archive:
City Hall has launched a public consultation process called the Toronto Service Review, and Mayor Rob Ford is using it to justify cutting jobs, privatization and contracting out, pitting Torontonians against one another along the way.
