On March 14, Wisconsin State AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Stephanie Bloomingdale delivered a message of solidarity and hope to a special meeting of Toronto-area CUPE Locals.

Bloomingdale’s visit came just days after a massive rally in her home state, with more than 100,000 people demonstrating in the Capitol of Madison against extremist right-wing Governor Scott Walker, who has stripped working people of their basic rights to bargain collectively.

Sharing her experiences with the more than 50 CUPE Locals in attendance, Bloomingdale urged people to mobilize and push back against the attacks on working people by Toronto Mayor Rob Ford and his supporters.

“We can win this,” Bloomingdale said.

Monday’s special leadership meeting was organized by CUPE Ontario to organize a collective CUPE response to the attacks by the Mayor and his supporters. Dozens of supporters and partners from a wide cross-section of the community attended an afternoon session that included Bloomingdale’s keynote speech.
