I have been president of CUPE local 1287 in Niagara for 4 years. I have been active in my Local for over 10 years prior to that as a grievance officer on our Executive board. In the past I have been active in many campaign including the plebiscite conducted by the Ontario Health Coalition against the Niagara Health Systems plans for a P3 hospital in St. Catharines.

I ran for Council in 2006 as I seen a need for change in my community. I was not happy with the lack of affordable sports for youth and affordable housing for seniors. Prior to being on Council I was very active in my community. I have been a board member for the non profit housing board and an active board member of the community group. The group was formed as an answer to organized sports that was of reach for many children. Since the development of the community group we have started a low cost daycare and after school programs for kids with the partnership of big brothers big sisters Niagara.

During my past four years on council I have pushed accessibility, I am glad to say that Thorold was one of the first communities in Ontario to have a completely accessible park. Nearly every amenity in our community is accessible.

We also passed the first complete buy Canadian procurement policy that was recommended by the CLC and CAW. I am running for Council again as I feel I have much more work to do around these issues. We are in need of a policy on greening our community and economic development.
