WINDSOR, Ont. Local 4299 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) reached a ground-breaking agreement with the Conseil scolaire de district des écoles catholiques du Sud-Ouest (CSDÉCSO) that will help ensure a successful rollout of the new early learning program (ELP) in September.
This letter of agreement demonstrates all parties’ significant commitment to the future of the ELP in Ontario, said Anthony Cutrone, President, CUPE/SCFP 4299.
The letter of agreement, signed on Tuesday, is the first signed by CUPE in Ontario with a French language school board to incorporate the terms of the recently negotiated Provincial Discussion Table (PDT) agreement between the Province, school boards and the unions which represent the bulk of Ontario’s school board staff. The PDT agreement has now been incorporated into the current collective agreement between CSDÉCSO and CUPE, and will be in effect until 2012.
This is an exciting time for parents, children and early childhood educators (ECEs) as we move forward on early learning. I know the early learning professionals the board will be hiring are committed to providing students with the best possible education. The agreement we reached with CSDÉSCO will help that happen, said Cutrone.
They will now be able to focus on the important task of making early learning a success, secure in the knowledge there is a system in place that is ready to meet their needs, so they can meet students’ needs, he added.
