TORONTO, Ont. Thousands of City of Toronto inside workers and their families will take the ferry to Centre Island on July 14 and 15 for their union’s annual picnic.
Activities including games, races, tug-of-war and rides for children, get underway at 10:30 a.m. both days, said CUPE Local 79 executive board member Fred Taylor, who has been organizing the summer fun for the last 30 years. This year, the picnic goes back to the Toronto Islands for the first time in a decade.
The picnic is a chance for the thousands of people who provide important services to Toronto residents to get together with their families outside of work and get to know each other a bit better, said Local 79 President Ann Dembinski. This venue is an accessible, unique island park maintained by public sector workers. We’re happy this year to be able to enjoy the ferry ride, the facilities and the amusements.
CUPE Local 79 asks members to bring their union card or a recent pay stub as proof of membership.
