Update: In November, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice overturned Bill 124, finding that the law violated workers’ rights to free collective bargaining. The decision affirmed that workers’ rights are human rights and is a victory for all workers. The ruling was the long-awaited result of a legal challenge brought by a coalition of 70 unions and associations, including CUPE Ontario, and coordinated by the Ontario Federation of Labour.
True to form, the Ford government has announced that it plans to appeal the court’s decision, instead of respecting it and working to provide fair compensation to the hundreds of thousands of workers whose rights were violated by Bill 124 and whose wages were unjustly capped for years under the legislation.
Send a message to Premier Doug Ford, demanding that he do the right thing and drop any plans to appeal the court’s decision.
