TORONTO, ON – Ontario MPPs will address Queen’s Park on Tuesday, November 22, in an attempt to break the deadlock in a strike between the Children’s Aid Society of the Region of Peel (Peel CAS) and CUPE Local 4914 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE 4914), which represents 435 front-line, administrative and support workers.
The Peel CAS strike has now entered its tenth week. The union has tried ending the strike through negotiations and by requesting both parties agree to binding arbitration. Chief Executive Officer of Peel CAS, Rav Bains, has rejected these offers. Major outstanding issues include case-load language and a fair process for evaluating jobs. They are now asking the government to intervene and help settle the dispute.
MPP for Hamilton East-Stoney Creek, Paul Miller, will address the Legislature at 3:00 p.m. Members of CUPE 4914 will be at Queen’s Park throughout the day to speak with MPPs.
