CUPE members from across Ontario are in Montreal for the biennial CUPE National Convention.
Here are some recent Ontario highlights from convention:
All Regional Caucus selections for General Vice-President, including CUPE Ontario President Sid Ryan, were overwhelmingly ratified by delegates on the convention floor Wednesday, The following Regional vice-presidents from Ontario were elected in Monday’s regional caucuses and will come to the convention floor for election today:
CUPE Ontario First Vice-President Michael Hurley (OCHU) and Second Vice-President Candace Rennick (LTC) were selected by the Ontario Caucus as Regional Vice-Presidents.
Northern Ontario Delegates have selected Henri Giroux as Regional VP.
Yolanda McLean has been returned to the role of Diversity Vice-President representing Workers of Colour. Sister McLean was acclaimed by the National Workers of Colour Caucus.
In other convention news:
- Delegates braved chilly temperatures and rainy skies to rally on the streets of Montreal Wednesday.
- Pauline Merrigan, a health-and-safety representative from CUPE Local 4400 received the third Annual CUPE Literacy award Wednesday.
- This morning, CUPE National President Paul Moist announced the recipient of this year’s Grace Hartman AwardLocal 79’s Helen Kennedy.
