We are CUPE 1656 members who work hard every day to provide the services you rely on in the Region of Waterloo, including providing clean drinking water, airport services, regional road maintenance, maintenance of emergency vehicles, and landfill services.

Waterloo Regional Chair Karen Redman and Waterloo Regional Council lied to us. They offered us higher wages one day, and then took back their offer the next.

They have refused to honour the commitments they made in negotiations, and as a result we are on strike and services residents depend on are disrupted, including waste disposal as well as flight delays at the regional airport.

Please contact Waterloo Regional Chair Karen Redman and Waterloo Regional Council and tell them to honour their commitment to workers and end the strike.

Subject: Waterloo Regional Council: Stop the Strike. Honour Your Commitment to CUPE 1656 Members!

Waterloo Regional Council,

I am writing today to express my disappointment in the treatment of CUPE Local 1656 members by the Region of Waterloo that have led to their current strike.

It is unfair and dishonest that the Region offered wage increases to CUPE 1656 members during one round of negotiations, and are trying to walk back what you already proposed.

CUPE 1656 members work hard to provide vital services to our communities. They deserve a fair deal, and an employer that keeps their word.

We are holding your council personally responsible for this strike and the unnecessary delays and disruptions it is causing.

I am urging you to honour your commitment to Local 1656 members and return to the bargaining table with the original wage proposals offered by Waterloo Regional Council so that they can reach a fair deal and end the strike so they can return to work providing the vital services residents depend on.

Thank you for your time.
