CUPE represents over 8000 members in the developmental services sector who provide services to people with developmental disabilities. Provincial underfunding of developmental services is forcing cuts to programs and services. 23,000 families in Ontario are on waitlists for services. It is time Ontario developed a comprehensive strategy to expand quality services and supports for people with developmental disabilities.
CUPE has over 50 bargaining units in the developmental services sector in coordinated bargaining this year; if we include OPSEU locals, there are over 100 developmental service locals in Ontario with collective agreements expiring March 31, 2014.
What do we hope to achieve through coordinated bargaining?
This is our opportunity to increase stability in the sector, advocate for better services for the people we support, and improve wages, benefits and working conditions for our members so that we can provide better care for people with developmental disabilities and appropriate supports for the people who provide services.
We hope you will spend some time exploring these pages to learn more about how coordinated bargaining happens in CUPE and how it affects you.
