Public school support staff of the Hastings and Prince Edward Department of Education have been working without a contract since August 31, 2014.

Local 1022 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees is made up of 700 to 800 members employed as custodians, maintenance personnel, clerical workers, library and computer technicians, early childhood educators, educational assistants and student supervision monitors.

Members have been active this summer getting out into the public eye. July 4 they participated in the Belleville Pride parade, July 16 they held their annual free movie event in Trenton, welcoming close to 300 guests, and July 18 they hosted a free swim day at the Madoc pool.

Local 1022 president Leeann Evans said the public activity is an opportunity to give back to the community while interacting with residents to share their issues.[more]
