Plasma clinic threatened with court order by Health Ministry, March 19

Last summer, the province was forced to go to war with private physiotherapy clinics, noting that most of the documents the clinics supplied did not support their billings. Now the owners of a private plasma clinic are openly defying the government’s order to close. Despite this the province is still hell-bent on moving surgeries and diagnostic tests from public hospitals to private clinics.

The scientific and economic evidence is clear: private clinics produce poorer patient outcomes. And there are also ethical implications of buying blood from vulnerable populations. Private clinics should be banned outright.
