At a Local 1999 Executive meeting in November, 2010 the Executive Committee discussed undertaking a fund raising initiative in support of Denise House (a local women’s shelter) and Cornerstone (a local men’s shelter).

Sister Loyst approached ONA to partner with them.  The result: Sister Loyst and an ONA brother agreed to a shave-a-thon.  They promptly began gathering pledges in this regard.  Monies raised would go to Denise House, Cornerstone and in-patient cancer care.

On December 6th which is the National Day of Mourning and the National Day to End Violence Against Women, the CEO of Lakeridge Health Corporation shaved both their heads with the support of a CUPE Local 1999 young worker, Sister Brittany Simms.

Between Sister Loyst and the ONA brother they raised $3,125 for the 3 charities.  Well done Sister Loyst and others.
