Thanks to the hard work of parents, families, front-line child care workers and allies.
Peterborough City Council voted 9-2 in favour of a motion put forward by Councillor Kemi Akapo to keep Pearson and Peterborough Child Care Centres and before and after school programs open.
Since the announcement was made that these essential child care centres and programs could be lost due to the Ford Conservatives’ reckless cuts to our community, the people of Peterborough stepped up. You rallied, attended council meetings, gave deputations and pressured city council through email campaigns and phone calls, and council decided not to go along with the Ford agenda. Peterborough chose community, not cuts and as a result vital before and after school programs and two child care centres with a 50-year history in our community will remain open.
Congratulations, this victory is yours.
