SUDBURY, ON – The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 4705, representing roughly 1500 inside and outside workers, has reached a tentative agreement with the City of Greater Sudbury. The deal was reached late last night.
“It’s been a long road to get here,” said Darryl Taylor, president of Local 4705. “We’ve had more than 25 days of bargaining, and we were concerned that this was headed in the wrong direction. But we’re pleased to say we now have a tentative agreement that we will be recommending to our membership.”
No further details of the agreement will be released until members have had an opportunity to review it and hold a ratification vote. The vote will be scheduled in the days to come.
CUPE Local 4705 represents the bulk of the city’s unionized employees, including paramedics, bus drivers, pool and library workers, roads and parks workers, water and wastewater workers, garbage collectors, Ontario Works staff, clerical and technical staff, and many more.
