Services and Housing in the Province is a lifeline for people in crisis. Workers run 24/7 youth shelters, offer mental health counselling, help families find housing and stability, and provide addictions interventions. They save lives every day but they are in crisis too. Many work second jobs but still can’t pay their rent.

SHIP is a pillar of our community. They’re celebrated as a top employer. Workers should not be worried about having to turn to the same shelters they work out of, rely on food banks, or be forced to pay out of pocket once their meagre benefits run out.

SHIP workers are burnt out and broke. Tell SHIP to live their values and invest in their workers.

SUBJECT: Do right by workers. Invest in CUPE 966 members.

EMAIL:

SHIP is a vital part of Peel’s safety net, supporting our most vulnerable. But your workers – CUPE 966 members – who deliver these critical, life saving programs are struggling and in crisis.

They were forced to accept 1% under Bill 124 and they can’t afford to fall further behind.

Your workers are struggling to pay their bills.

Your workers are worried about being forced to turn to the same shelters they run.

Your workers are burnt out and broke. Something has to change.

SHIP likes to champion your credentials as a top employer. That means taking care of your workers. I urge you to commit to your workforce by offering a real wage increase and improved benefits.

Sincerely,
