Canadian Union of Public Employees Ontario president Fred Hahn was in Peterborough on Wednesday and joined CUPE Local 126 president Michelle Lavallee in showing support for the Peterborough Health Coalition’s campaign opposing the provincial government’s plan to shift a few surgical procedures to private clinics in a bid to address waiting times and free up capacity in Ontario hospitals.

Opponents are holding a citizen-run referendum on the issue on May 26 and 27 across Ontario, including 20 polling stations being set up in Peterborough city and county.

CUPE Local 126 represents unionized inside workers with the City of Peterborough.
