TORONTO – The Ontario Compensation Employees Union (OCEU/CUPE 1750) is expressing its deep gratitude to United Steelworkers (USW), Local 6500 in Sudbury, for standing in solidarity with more than 3,600 striking WSIB workers and for calling on the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board to return to the bargaining table with a fair offer.

In a statement released Friday June 20 , USW Local 6500 emphasized the devastating impact the strike is having on vulnerable Ontarians — including injured workers and surviving spouses-  whose access to justice and vital services is being delayed due to the WSIB’s refusal to negotiate a fair contract.

“We’re incredibly moved by the words and support from our Steelworker colleagues,” said Harry Goslin, President of OCEU/CUPE 1750. “They understand what’s at stake — not just for our members, but for injured workers across Ontario who are being denied the care, compensation, and dignity they deserve.”

With recent conversations between the union and Labour Minister David Piccini showing signs of potential progress, OCEU remains hopeful that the WSIB will return to the table with a fair, final offer that can be brought to members for a vote.
