As Pride month draws to a close, CUPE library workers in Ontario wish to express again their solidarity with the LGBTQ2+ community and the continuing fight for equality, justice, dignity and inclusion. And it is in this sprit of solidarity that we challenge and condemn the intolerance shown against those Ontario libraries that hold Drag Queen Story Hour for children and families. As library workers, we wholeheartedly support these events, which are engaging exercises in interactive storytelling and which also provide children and adults with an inclusive and positive model of community.

As frontline workers delivering vital public services, CUPE library workers in Ontario have also faced violence and threats of violence on the job. We will not tolerate abuse or intolerance aimed at any community and will work actively to ensure that public libraries are accessible and safe places for everyone.
