BURLINGTON, ON – Halton Catholic District School Board Educational Assistants (EAs) and Designated Early Childhood Educators (DECEs), represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), have reached local tentative agreements with their employer. The school board workers will review and vote on a three-year agreement later next week.
“We are pleased that we were able to work together with management to reach this tentative deal that will let our members focus on what we do best – serving our youngest and most vulnerable students in our schools,” said Tracey Newman, president of CUPE 5200.
CUPE 5200 represents 475 EAs and 225 DECEs (Unit B of Local 5200) working in 54 elementary and secondary schools in the Halton region. The EAs work closely with and support students with special needs and the DECEs nurture and develop the social, intellectual and emotional growth of children under six in a play-based learning environment.
