Dear members,
On November 2, 2016, the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS) will be holding a National Day of Action demanding universal access to education, education justice and public education for the public good.
CUPE Ontario is a proud supporter of the National Day of Action, and we encourage all members to participate at events across the province. In Toronto? Join CUPE Ontario at a mass rally at Queen’s Park at 2 pm.
We also ask that your Local consider officially endorsing the National Day of Action and/or making a financial donation to support grassroots organizing, busing, advertising and the production of materials for the event. Please click here for a sample resolution provided by CFS as well as a backgrounder. In Ontario, the campaign has three main focuses:
- Progressive reduction and elimination of tuition fees for all students in the new tuition fee framework,
- Conversion of student loans into non-repayable grants in the 2017 Ontario Budget, and
- Removal of interest on existing student loans.
At the core of a just, equitable and fair society is a system of public post-secondary education that is accessible to everyone. We hope to see you all out on November 2.
In solidarity,
Fred Hahn Candace Rennick Janice Folk-Dawson
