CUPE Ontario will unveil the launch of its anti-privatization campaign with a series of rock concerts during July and August. The initiative is part of a massive country-wide campaign by CUPE to fight back against privatization of public services.
The first two concerts are scheduled for Sturgeon Falls on Monday, July 21 and Kenora’s Rec Centre on Wednesday, July 23 starting at 8:00 p.m. The Sturgeon Falls concert, starting at 7:00 p.m., will feature local guest band High Holy Days.
We’re sending a message to communities across Ontario that public services are the bedrock of strong communities, says CUPE Ontario President Sid Ryan. We’re asking citizens to tell their municipal councils and the provincial government to say no to P3s, contracting out, competitive bidding and commercialization because they cost taxpayers more and deliver less.
In August, CUPE Ontario is working with the rock group April Wine to establish dates for concerts in Brockville, Ajax, Welland and London. Watch this website for confirmed dates.
The Rock for Public Services’ campaign is being supported by newspaper and radio advertising, music promotions and extensive flyering and postering by locals in these communities. CUPE locals are playing a major role in providing on-the-ground promotion, volunteers and coordination for the concert events.
Area offices and locals are encouraged to promote the concerts. Flyers and posters for the events can be downloaded below.
