WINDSOR, ONTARIO–Negotiators for Local 1393 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE 1393) have today reached a tentative agreement with their employer, the University of Windsor.
The tentative agreement comes on the heels of four days of marathon collective bargaining between the two sides. If ratified, the collective agreement will end a month-long strike by 282 skilled trades and professional staff at the University of Windsor.
Local 1393 members walked off the job on September 8 after the University refused to back away from demands members accept concessions across a wide range of job protections.
Details of the proposed collective agreement will not be publicly released until CUPE 1393 members have had an opportunity to review and vote upon it. A ratification vote is currently being scheduled for Wednesday, October 9.
Accordingly, there will be no further public comment from Local 1393 until the ratification vote is completed later in the week.
If approved, members could return to work by the end of the week.
