CUPE 1880 e-blast, MPP contact info and sample letter

The Ontario March of Dimes has threatened to lock out our sisters and brothers at the Sault Ste. Marie March of Dimes, members of Local 1880, unless they agree to major contract rollbacks and concessions.  Our members at the March of Dimes provide vital home care and personal support services to the most vulnerable members of their community.

All CUPE wants is a contract that protects the people our members care for and one that respects their work.

Many of the services our members provide are mandated provincial health, social service and personal support services.

Please take a moment to contact the area MPP and tell him to step in before it’s too late, and urge the Ontario March of Dimes to protect these vital services and treat staff fairly.

Dear Mr. Orazietti

I understand that many health, social service and personal support services at the March of Dimes in Sault Ste. Marie are at risk, after management threatened to lock out workers unless they agree to major concessions and contract rollbacks.

CUPE members want to return to the bargaining table and negotiate a settlement, but so far management has refused their invitation to resume contract talks. I am writing to urge you to use your good influence to get the talks started again. The most vulnerable people in our community will suffer greatly if the March of Dimes locks out its workers.

Sault Ste. Marie is already an underserviced area, and we simply cannot afford to lose these vital services in our community.

Sincerely,
