On Wednesday, February 23, Toronto City Council will vote on a Budget Committee recommendation to close the Urban Affairs Library at Metro Hall. Community, staff, researchers, and students rely on this library. Circulation at the Urban Affairs Library has increased by no less than 61 per cent since 2009 and 111,625 people visited the Library in 2010.
The Toronto Public Library Workers Union, the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 4948, will hold a rally on Tuesday, February 22 at noon at Toronto’s Metro Hall, 55 John Street, to protest the closure.
Please join the community and members of the Toronto Public Library Workers Union, CUPE Local 4948, and send a message to the Ford Administration and City Council that we do not want cuts to our public library system and do not support the closure of the Urban Affairs Library.

Dear Mayor Ford and Councillors:
I ask that you vote against the Budget Committee’s recommendation to close the Urban Affairs Library at Toronto’s Metro Hall, 55 John Street.
Circulation at the Urban Affairs Library has increased by no less than 61 per cent last year and 111,625 people visited the library in 2010 alone because it was close to where they lived or worked. The closure of the Urban Affairs Library will diminish access to the unique urban affairs collection and result in more cuts to library staffing. Since 1998, 10% of library staff have been cut, affecting the quality of library service and programming that makes Toronto Public Library a world-class public institution.
Save the Urban Affairs Library and help the constituents you were elected to serve.
