LONDON, ON – The president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario, Fred Hahn, with members from across the region, will bring solidarity and support to a barbeque in support of striking London “inside” workers at noon Tuesday. Hahn will bring support from 250,000 CUPE members across Ontario.
“CUPE 101 members provide important services in London and they should be back at work serving the residents and business of London,” said Hahn. “CUPE has made compromises in our attempt to end this strike, including offering to send outstanding issues to a neutral third-party, but the city said no. The mayor will need to explain to the people of London why he is refusing to end this today.
“We are asking what Mayor Matt Brown and his councillors are doing to end the City of London strike,” said Hahn. “We’re holding this barbeque to remind our members that they’re not alone in this fight. They have the support of 250,000 CUPE members across the province.”
WHO: Fred Hahn, president, CUPE Ontario
WHAT: BBQ and rally supporting CUPE Local 101 members
WHEN: Tuesday, June 16, 12:00 Noon – 2:00 p.m.
WHERE: Victoria Park, 509 Clarence Street, London
CUPE is Ontario’s community union, with 250,000 members providing quality public services we all rely on, in every part of the province, every day. CUPE Ontario members are proud to work in social services, health care, municipalities, school boards, universities and airlines.
