CUPE 2974, Essex County Library

ESSEX, ON – Fred Hahn, President of CUPE Ontario, along with Candace Rennick, CUPE Ontario’s Secretary-Treasurer, and the executive board of the CUPE Ontario Division, will lead a solidarity rally for striking Essex County library workers on Thursday, July 14, at 11:00 a.m. in front of the Tecumseh Library at 13675 Street Gregory’s Road in Tecumseh.

“We are looking forward to having our elected leaders from CUPE Ontario join us on our picket lines,” said Lori Wightman, unit chair for CUPE 2974. “Our members continue to receive tremendous support from our library patrons and tomorrow we will be joined by our division leaders bringing solidarity and support messages from 258,000 CUPE members from across our province.”

Both parties are set to resume bargaining on Friday with the assistance of a mediator. “We’ve always been willing and prepared to return to the bargaining table and we hope the employer will come to the table for meaningful discussions on Friday,” continued Wightman. The 14 library branches remain closed while the strike enters its third week on Saturday.
