As Federal anti-scab legislation comes into force Ontario workers are left out to dry
Twenty-four personal care workers at Villa Colombo Homes for the Aged joined CUPE in 2022. For three years they fought to negotiate a first collective agreement that addresses poverty wages and preserves benefits and sick days. Since these members went on strike on May 28, Villa Colombo has put care for elderly residents at risk by bringing in scab labour – for which it pays more than it pays its existing workers.
