People who are Deaf and hard of hearing have been SILENCED.
And the workers that support them have been left behind.
That’s not right. But the person who is supposed to make sure Deaf and hard of hearing Ontarians have access to essential services delivered by well-treated staff is not doing her job.
Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) used to have more than 500 workers. Now there are only 206.
That means higher case loads for workers, less in-person support for Deaf and hard of hearing people, and a CHS agency that’s entirely focused on the bottom line and not quality care.
CEO Julia Dumanian’s pay has skyrocketed. She now earns 122 per cent more than the previous CEO while workers have fallen 16 per cent behind inflation.
So while workers try and stretch their paycheques further and clients struggle with a hollowed out agency, Julia now takes home $340,250 a year.
Something has to change at CHS to once again make it an agency workers can be proud of that truly meets the needs of Ontario’s Deaf and hard of hearing.
You can help. Send a message to the CHS Board of Directors to get Canadian Hearing Services back on track.
