Historic Skilled Trades Conference

The first annual skilled trades conference organized by CUPE Ontario was a resounding success, according to evaluations by some of the 200 workers who attended the event. Never before in the history of the union has the scope and breadth of trades workers in the public sector been acknowledged and discussed.

April Wine draws 6,000-7,000 at Rock for Public Services in Ajax August 21, 2008

AJAX, Ont. – Between 6,000-7,000 people came out in Ajax to hear rock band April Wine at a free concert tonight presented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). Called ‘Rock for Public Services,’ the event was one of a series of rock concerts that CUPE Ontario has planned in cities across the province to celebrate and bring home the importance of public services.

Air Canada Flight Attendants Rally in Toronto Pearson Airport – July 29th, 2008

Air Canada flight attendants, members of CUPE 4092, rallied at Pearson International Airport this afternoon (Monday, July 28). Earlier this month Air Canada announced that an estimated 2000 jobs will be cut.

Sid Ryan, president of CUPE Ontario, spoke to flight attendants and their supports.

CUPE Ontario held its 45th Annual Convention in Niagara Falls, from May 21 to 24. A record number of delegates registered to attend what was the biggest convention ever of CUPE Ontario. Over 1,000 delegates, buoyed by 26 new locals and 4,400 members who have affiliated to CUPE Ontario over the last two years, met to determine the union’s plan of action for the coming year. School board members endorse provincial negotiations process



More than 400 CUPE school board sector members attending a sector-wide emergency meeting in Toronto on January 21, unanimously endorsed participation in a provincial common issues negotiations process set to begin at the end of January.

Rally to support striking CUPE Local 218 workers

Busloads of striking school support workers from Durham Region descended on Queen’s Park to highlight the fact that the McGuinty government is continuing to underfund school operations and fuel province-wide labour unrest. Twenty-one hundred members of Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 218 at Durham Public School Board went on strike on Wednesday, March 21, 2007.  They include educational assistants (EAs), office, clerical and technical staff, and custodial and maintenance workers.
