2014 Health and Safety/Injured Workers Advocacy Committees Conference Details

Download the Injured Worker Advocate Award nomination form.

The closing date for nomination is April 24

The Injured Worker advocacy Committee includes a member from the division executive and one member from each jurisdiction. The committee works to promote the rights of injured workers in all sectors of CUPE.

Much of the Committee’s efforts focus on advocacy and involvement in members WSIB claims at the earliest and most effective level possible. It supports the training of local advocates, enabling them to assist members in navigating through the compensation system when filing claims once a workplace injury/illness occurs.  The committee also assists each local in developing language for inclusion into their collective agreements, for areas such as ‘Return to Work’, and the ‘Duty to Accommodate’.

It supports the union development department in encouraging members to partake in all levels of WSIB training through the OFL – Occupational Disability Response Team  (ODRT), including:

Level 1- Rights and Obligations

Level 2- Benefits and Representation,

Level 3 – Appeals and Dispute Resolution

Level 4 – Return to Work,

Level 5 – Medical Orientation

Level 6 – Occupational Disease.
