Memo to Prince Edward County Council:

Don’t Rush To Flush! Our tax dollars must stay under public control, not go down the toilet!

On Thursday, October 2, County Council will hold a special meeting to decide whether to build our new wastewater treatment plant as a public venture or pay a group of companies to design, build and operate it as a “public private partnership” (P3).  Many cities, like Hamilton and Kingston, have rejected the P3 model.

Council has been advised by an engineering consulting firm to just get on with building it publicly, avoid further delays and avoid the increased costs of a P3 project.  And Council has been presented with evidence that shows that the P3 choice is secretive, more expensive and outside community control.  Are they listening to the facts, or to private lobbyists?

There is no magic money.  Whether through traditional procurement or a P3 model, the taxpayers are going to pay for a new wastewater treatment plant.  Question is, do we want to pay more for a P3?

Contact Council today.  Ask them why they’re rushing to flush our tax dollars down the toilet.
