Coalition of child care activists announces free children’s concert this Sunday.
PETERBOROUGH, Ont. A coalition of local child care activists say Peterborough will Jump Up’ for public child care this Sunday, November 29.
The activists, representing a cross-section of the labour movement, child care advocates and parents, announced a free community concert called Jump Up for Public Child Care.’ As well, they called on politicians from all levels of government to reaffirm their support for affordable, accessible early learning and care for every Ontario family that needs it.
Our children deserve to grow and develop in environments that help them to realize their full potential as human beings, said Peterborough and District Labour Council President Marion Burton, who was joined at the news conference by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) National Representative Alison Davidson.
The Jump Up for Public Child Care concert tour is a project of Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Ontario, the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care (OCBCC), and the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL). This free concert is family-friendly and non-partisan. It will feature Juno-nominated musician Chris McKhool, local author Jan Thornhill, treats for the kids and a door prize draw for grown-ups.
Sunday’s events will take place at Market Hall, which is located at 336 George Street. Doors will open at 1:00 p.m., and the concert portion of the event begins shortly after 2:00 p.m.
