We’re ready for our close-up!

Join CUPE Ontario at the gala opening of the Canadian Labour International Film Festival (CLIFF), Sunday, November 22 at 4 p.m.!

‘Hold the Line’, Gemini Award-nominated film director Min Sook Lee’s moving documentary about striking Windsor municipal workers has been selected as one of two films that will open Canada’s first-ever film festival devoted exclusively to the stories of working people.

Join us for the opening festivities! It’s an opportunity to watch ‘Hold the Line’ if you haven’t already seen it, as well as an opportunity to hear director Min Sook Lee discuss making the film and the challenges filmmakers face when making movies about working people and labour in general.

As well, CUPE Ontario President Sid Ryan will also give a brief speech prior to showing  ‘Hold the Line’.

What: The first annual Canadian Labour International Film Festival (CLIFF) grand opening, featuring ‘Hold the Line,’ a documentary film shot during the 101-day municipal workers’ strike by CUPE Locals 82 and 543 in Windsor, Ontario.

Where: The Sheraton Hotel and Convention Centre Toronto Downtown, 123 Queen Street West (in the Grand Ballroom).

When: Sunday, November 22, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. 

Who:

  • Gemini Award-nominated director Min Sook Lee, presenting ‘Hold the Line’ and discussing both making the film and the challenges of telling workers’ stories .
  • CUPE Ontario President Sid Ryan, with remarks about ‘Hold the Line’ and the Film Festival.
  • Music by Faith Nolan.
  • Remarks by OFL President Wayne Samuelson, Toronto and York Region Labour Council President John Cartwright, Festival founder Frank Saptel and others.
