TORONTO, Ont. Maurice Cody child care workers, who work in a school-based child care centre at Maurice Cody Public School, have voted to become members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). The 11 early childhood educators and child care workers voted on Tuesday, June 19, to join CUPE in a certification vote supervised by the Ontario Labour Relations Board.
We are proud to welcome our newest members to our growing CUPE child care family, said Laura Moore, CUPE national representative. Child care professionals deserve respect and recognition for the quality services they provide to our children in joining CUPE these workers will ensure they have a stronger voice in their workplace and the broader community, improving the quality of child care.
CUPE advocates for quality, accessible child care, provided by dedicated professional workers in a not-for-profit environment. As the leading Canadian union in the child care sector, CUPE continues to wage successful public awareness campaigns on child care issues, including the push to pass Bill C-303, an NDP private members bill, that will lay the foundation for an accountable, high quality early learning and child care system in Canada.
