LINDSAY, Ont. Legendary rocker Kim Mitchell will headline a free concert presented this Friday night at the Lindsay Fairgrounds by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). Called Rock for Public Services,’ the September 26 event is one of a series of rock concerts that CUPE Ontario is holding in cities across the province to celebrate and bring home the importance of public services.
This is our way of thanking people in The Kawarthas for their ongoing support and dedication to preserving public services that are the bedrock of strong communities, says CUPE Ontario President Sid Ryan. The evening is an alcohol-free concert for families.
The opening act for the evening is DAME, an all-female rock group that won two awards at the 2008 Toronto Independent Music Awards. They scored Best Alternative Rock Band as well as Best Song for two recordings that tied for the best song award, Cyclops and Intervention. Ranging in age from 15-17, DAME has been featured several times on CBC TV’s George Stroumboulopoulos’ show The Hour as well as on Much Music and on YTV.
The concert starts at 7:00 p.m. sharp and is being held at the Lindsay Fairgrounds at 354 Angeline Street South in Lindsay. Crowds are expected from the Lindsay, Peterborough, Cobourg,
Port Hope and surrounding area.
