NDP losing touch with its roots,

Letter Sept. 17

As president of CUPE Ontario, I am proud to lead a diverse union whose membership holds many different views on political issues. That being said, I must point out that the views expressed in this letter by one of our board members do not reflect our union’s position regarding electoral politics.

Furthermore, the issue that sparked this letter has been resolved. The Star has made an online correction that the NDP’s technical road crew are members of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union.

I am proud to lead a union that democratically sets in place on a yearly basis an action plan that puts the needs of working people first. Consistently, this process has resulted in our members supporting the only party that we see representing the interests of working people and that is the NDP.

Sid Ryan, Ontario President, Canadian Unionof Public Employees (CUPE)
