“Residents have bought and paid for these public services and yet the province is doing nothing while deep cuts are made to hospital services. Our most vulnerable children in schools are also affected as school boards continue to struggle with underfunding,” says CUPE Ontario President Sid Ryan.

The media conference will also address the loss of good jobs and the resulting economic impact on local communities when governments contract out services to private operators or enter into expensive public-private partnerships (P3s) to build community facilities.

Date: Tuesday, August 19, 2008

Media Conference: 10:00 a.m.

Location: HMS Room foyer, Ajax Community Centre

This media conference is being held the day before CUPE Ontario hosts a free rock concert with April Wine in Ajax to highlight the need to preserve public services that are the bedrock of strong communities.
