SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont.  – The CAS workers of the Children’s Aid Society of Algoma, CUPE local 1880, have reached a tentative agreement, with ratification expected by Friday, June 6.

“We’re really pleased with both the agreement and the fact that we were not forced to strike. It was an extremely difficult round of bargaining, but with the assistance of our conciliator we were able to come to, what believe is, a fair deal,” said Lee-Ann Pettenuzzo, vice president of CUPE 1880.

The main issues at the bargaining table were wages – CUPE 1880’s salary is in the bottom 10 per cent of CAS workers in the province, workload members are carrying,
and health and safety issues.

When the agreement has been ratified details will be released.
