Clinton, Ont. – Huron County Public Health workers, represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), recently voted 97 per cent in favour of a strike if a fair collective agreement is not reached with their employer.

“All we are seeking is a fair deal that respects our members and the services we provide to our communities,” said Cindy Simpson, president of CUPE 1305.

Union representatives requested the assistance of a provincial conciliator after hitting a roadblock on the last day of scheduled bargaining, when management refused to consider the union’s proposal.  Conciliation talks are scheduled for April 30. Outstanding issues include wages and benefits.

CUPE 1305 represents 42 Health Unit workers who provide services such as health promotion, health inspection and administrative support services in HuronCounty.  The workers’ last contract expired on December 31, 2007.
