PORT PERRY, Ont. – Community Living Durham North workers, represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), reached a tentative agreement with their employer early this morning after a marathon bargaining session. The front-line developmental services workers will be voting on the tentative settlement on Friday, November 7.

“Reaching a tentative agreement will allow our members to continue to provide important services that supported individuals and their families rely on,” said Jacqui Lancaster, CUPE national representative. “We are pleased that a deal has been reached so a service shutdown has been averted.”

The workers were facing a Friday, November 7 deadline for a possible lockout by management after the agency pulled the trigger on bargaining talks last month. CUPE represents full-time (Local 2936.07) and part-time (Local 2936.11) workers who provide services to people with developmental disabilities. No further comments will be made by the union while the workers vote on the tentative contract.
