MAPLE, ON – Richview Manor in Maple, Ontario, is refusing to recognize the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), despite workers having voted unanimously to join the union last January, and responded by contracting out their work. CUPE members will rally outside the facility tomorrow.
“This is a clear case of union busting,” says CUPE Ontario President Fred Hahn, who will speak at tomorrow’s rally. “The employer has gone to extraordinary lengths to prevent these workers from being represented by the union of their choosing. We’re calling on Richview’s management to stop interfering and respect the democratic process.”
CUPE members and supporters will rally outside the facility beginning at noon.
WHO: Speakers include CUPE Ontario President Fred Hahn and Health Care Workers Coordinating Committee Chair Kelly O’Sullivan
WHAT: Rally supporting rights of long-term care workers to be represented by their union of choice
WHEN: Wednesday, October 22, 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m.
WHERE: Richview Manor, 10500 Dufferin Street, Maple (Corner of Dufferin Street and Teston Road)
CUPE is Ontario’s community union, with members providing the quality public services we all rely on, in every part of the province, every day. CUPE Ontario members are proud to work in social services, health care, municipalities, school boards, universities and airlines.
