LINDSAY, Ont. – Beginning next month, residents of local long-term care home Frost Manor will receive 75 fewer hours of care biweekly, on top of the loss of 112 personal support hours biweekly last August.
For residents, this means fewer RPNs on the nursing floor each day and fewer PSWs available to catch up on missed care. For staff, the cuts will put more pressure on already demanding workloads.
To highlight the effects of cuts on frail and elderly residents in long-term care, frontline workers at Frost Manor will hold a rally at the residence on Tuesday, July 22. Joining them are representatives of CUPE Ontario, President Fred Hahn and Executive Board Member Eddie Pereira.
Participants at the rally will also use the opportunity to endorse the Time to Care campaign, which calls for a legislated care standard of a minimum four hours per resident each day.
